Thousand Trails Resort
La Pine, Oregon
Thousand Trails Bend-Sunriver Campground, off Highway 97 north of La Pine in Deschutes County, Oregon, relied on wastewater infrastructure installed in the 1970s: thirteen separate septic systems serving more than 300 RV, cabin, and tent sites across the resort. Steel tanks were deteriorating, drainfields were scattered across the property, and a nitrogen-reduction requirement of 10 mg/L before dispersal meant the existing patchwork of systems could no longer meet the permit.
REGEN designed a centralized collection and treatment system built around the resort’s existing tankage. An effluent sewer network ties the property’s primary septic tanks into a new secondary treatment plant using Orenco AdvanTex textile filters, with pre-anoxic and post-anoxic stages for denitrification, sized for a 20,000 gpd design flow with capacity reserved for 150 future RV spaces. Treated effluent disperses through new shallow, gravelless drainfields, meeting the required 10 mg/L nitrogen limit while reusing as much of the resort’s existing infrastructure as possible.
